American Funeral Director Editor Takes Home First-Place Prize

Patti Martin Bartsche, a longtime journalist and editor of Kates-Boylston Publications, recently won a first-place award from the Specialized Information Publishers Association.

Bartsche's award-winning article focused on the life, death and funeral of soul-singing diva Whitney Houston, and it was published in the April 2012 issue of American Funeral Director. The article won first place in the association’s Best Single News Story category. Funeral Service Insider won two second-place awards: one in the Best Investigative category for a series focusing on Newcomer Funeral Homes, Walker Funeral Homes and Henry Vinson and another in the Best Instructional category for an article on collecting and using email addresses.

“Winning three different awards in three different categories is a testament to the fine reporting done by our staff,” says Thomas A. Parmalee, executive director of Kates-Boylston Publications. “We’re very lucky to have such talented people, and we’ll keep delivering the news, analysis and guidance that our readers simply must have.”
