COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice executive director search committee has appointed Patty S. Hutcheson APFSP executive director, according to a news release.
Hutcheson, of Buchanan, Ga., has taught grief psychology and restorative art for more than 25 years at Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service. She was named president of the Decator, Ga., college in 2000.
Hutcheson holds an associate of arts degree from Truett-McConnell College, an associate of science degree from Gupton-Jones and bachelor and master of arts degrees in English from the University of West Georgia.
Hutcheson is a Georgia licensed funeral director and embalmer, a certified funeral service practitioner, and is past president of the American Board of Funeral Service Education. She and her husband, Danny, own Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel and Crematory in Buchanan, Ga., which was founded in 1983. Danny Hutcheson served on the APFSP board of trustees and is a past president of the Academy. Their daughter, Kathryn, and son-in-law, Chase Croft, are also licensed funeral directors and embalmers working in the family business.
Hutcheson is active in her church, Buchanan United Methodist Church, serving as lay leader and Sunday School teacher and is a certified lay speaker in the North Georgia Conference. She was elected to the Buchanan City Council in 2011.
The search committee included the entire board of trustees and past presidents John "Jay" Rhodes, CFSP, and Diana Duksa Kurz, CFSP.
