Adrian F. Boylston Jr., the former president and publisher of Kates-Boylston Publications, died Aug. 28, the Island Funeral Home & Crematory on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, confirmed.
Boylston's father was the former editor and business manager of Kates-Boylston. When his father died in 1967, he took a larger role in the company, taking on the duties of vice president in addition to his duties as advertising manager. For many years, he ran the company with Charlie Kates.
When Kates retired in 1989, Boylston remained president until United Communications Group bought the company in 2002. He continued on at the company for two more years as publisher emeritus.
Boylston was inducted into the Museum of Funeral History's Hall of Fame in 2003, and just last year, he was honored by the Casket & Funeral Supply Association of America with a lifetime recognition award.
